Excess Soils Symposium

The 2020 edition of the Excess Soils Symposium is presented by EnvironmentJournal.ca and its parent company, Actual Media.

This year’s fourth annual event will take place on. Tuesday, December 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. as a virtual discussion featuring important conversations on excess soils regulations throughout Canada.

Event Program

1:00 p.m. – Introductory Remarks – Andrew Macklin, Editorial Director, Actual Media

1:05 p.m. – Excess Soils Regulations in Ontario

  • We’ll hear an update from the Ontario Ministry of Environment on the work being done to create new excess soils regulations in the province.

1:30 p.m. – Panel Discussion: How Ontario’s New Regulations Impact the Industry

  • This conversation will take a multi-stakeholder approach to the impacts of excess soils regulations, with perspectives on the land use planning, building, environmental, risk, and disposal impacts that the new regulations will cause.

2:30 p.m. – BREAK

3:00 p.m. – Panel Discussion: Excess Solis Management Across Canada

  • We take a look at how other provinces are working with excess soils. How do the policies differ in Canadian jurisdictions, and what are the environmental impacts of these regulations, or lack thereof in some cases?

3:45 p.m. – Panel Discussion: The Innovations Driving Best Practices in Excess Soils Management

  • How are innovations in materials testing, soil tracking, and soil disposal impacting our decisions over the best use of excess construction soils. Are there proactive technologies or practices that we could employ to create less soils from construction sites?

4:30 p.m. – Closing Remarks – Andrew Macklin, Editorial Director, Actual Media

Tickets for this year’s Excess Soils Symposium are $75 +HST and go on sale on Friday, October 23rd.
